Search Engineers are in a position that is highly sought after by many companies. As their job title might suggest, they are responsible for working on search algorithms, Web services, search indexing and data mining for vast quantities of data. Search Engineers must be able to build platforms that indexed billions of documents, images and other assets in real time as well as maintain and optimize the search engines that they are responsible for.
Search Engineers need at a minimum a four-year undergraduate degree in computer science. However, many times companies will require a graduate degree in computer science as well as several years of relevant experience in the industry. One should have plenty of hands-on experience with industry-standard languages such as Java, Python and PHP, as well as experience with big data processing with Hadoop and Spark. Of course, strong skills in databases are also a must, and they need to be able to stay on top of emerging technologies and techniques.
