AR/VR Engineers are in an exciting and high-paying career. These software engineers develop programs and systems centered around optics and augmented reality technology that frequently uses large-scale environments and headmounted displays to provide visual feedback to users alongside digital processing. This is a very technical and highly skilled career, and engineers who are pursuing this position must be of the hands-on type when it comes to system programming, vision components and sensory integration.
AR/VR Engineers need to have strong coding and debugging skills and be able to write complex, real-time application code. ARM and Linux experience is also a huge plus alongside being able to develop image processing algorithms and implementation. In addition to software skills, exceptional communication and documentation skills are also a must. A minimum of a four year college degree is required in computer science, though graduate or doctorate level engineering degrees are often preferred by many companies.
