Job Description

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and occasionally suggest improvements to the architecture.

Leads a specialized area which may have diverse functional elements. Frequently interacts with supervisors and/or functional peer group managers. May interact with senior management. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. Typically one year of software engineering or related experience.

About the Outbound Platform team

The Outbound Platform team within Oracle Utilities builds the tools and APIs that our

product teams use to deliver millions of personalized communications each week. As

leader of the team, you'll help to set the vision for our Outbound Platform. This is a

backend-focused team, working on Java Services, MySQL databases, and the DevOps

tools to operate them.

Responsibilities

* Lead the team in the design and implementation of complex features and services.
* Write great software. We believe the only way to be a great Engineering Manager is to continue to be a great engineer, who can help out on code reviews or feature development as needed.
* Mentor and provide career guidance to the engineers on your team.
* Collaborate with peers, within and outside the team, to help develop a long-term vision for our software platform.
* Deliver compelling products within a modern microservices and data architecture.

About You

* You have 5 years experience as a software engineer and are experienced in writing code in Java.
* You have strong computer science fundamentals. Our large data sets and low latency solutions require deep background in computer science.
* BS or MS in computer science is preferred, but if you've acquired the chops in some other way then come show us.
* You have worked in agile environments and can lead a team through daily standups, estimation, and other agile processes.
* You take ownership of code areas that you touch and encourage your team to do the same.
* You communicate well with engineers & non-engineers alike.
* You document what you and your team do, from design reviews to user documentation.
* You can lead design sessions for complex problems.
* You should understand microservices and how to use them to build complex applications.
* Experience with Dropwizard and MySQL is a bonus, but not required.
* Experience mentoring developers
