Mainframe is like WhatsApp but for business & focused on productivity and work.

Mainframe is a young, ambitious technology startup who is on a mission to overcome one of the greatest inefficiencies in today’s organisations: the way people communicate, collaborate and interact in the workplace. We seek to make work life more engaging, productive and simple by providing a messaging platform where people can have real, modern conversations.

Mainframe is backed by a number of leading US and UK venture firms such as FFVC, Hoxton Ventures and Data Collective as well as various angel investors deeply familiar with email, messaging, SaaS and collaboration. They include founder of Huddle, founder of Sparrow, early people at Zimbra, Google Wave, Twitter, Apple and Salesforce.

Our engineering team is made up of server side engineers with great experience in scaling communication infrastructures (Zynga/Silent Circle/Tuenti) and on client side engineers who’ve built some of the top European startup web & mobile applications (Hailo/OneFineStay).

What we all at Mainframe share is the conviction that businesses who will thrive in the 21st century can’t rely for their communication on a 30+ year old technology - email - which leads to incredible inefficiencies and an average of 30% workday wasted.

Mainframe is a new messaging platform focused on productivity, context and intent. Four key characteristics differentiate us:

Context is King.

We’ve built certain use-cases directly into the workflow of the messaging experience - you’re able to send action items to people, coordinate meetings, and collaborate around documents.

Global identity.

Unlike team chat tools, you have a global identity (username). Workplace is changing dramatically - boundaries are becoming blurred. Mainframe doesn't constrain you to just your “team."

Modern Messaging.

Mainframe is a messaging app. It provides all the benefits like real-time chat, presence, channels, and mobile. This is dramatically different from what many businesses are using: email.

Backwards-compatible with Email.

You can communicate with anybody also using Mainframe - like email, as long as you know their username, you can reach them. Or, for the legacy users, you can include virtually anybody through their email address.
