After the birth of Co-Founder Nona Farahnik Yadegar’s first child, she was experiencing issues nobody prepared her for including incontinence and pelvic pain. She discovered pelvic floor PT and was blown away by her experience.
Co-Founder and CEO Carine Carmy experienced painful sex for nearly a decade and learned about pelvic floor from Nona, a friend of over 20 years.
Their stories reflect a cultural trend of normalizing women’s pain. The stats are staggering: 1 in 3 adult women have incontinence. 1 in 6 have chronic painful sex. 1 in 2 women going through menopause suffer from vaginal atrophy. Many of these conditions often start in maternity, where there is no national standard for rehab or recovery.
Nona, David, and Carine partnered with a local clinical team in Los Angeles to build and launch Origin to change the status quo for the 40M US women who are suffering in silence from incredibly common but overlooked health issues related to pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, and sexual health. Origin will do this by expanding clinics across the US while increasing access through its virtual health platform.
Origin initially launched Virtual care across CA, NY, and TX at the beginning of the pandemic. In August 2020, Origin opened its first physical location in Brentwood. Over the past year, bookings have grown over 500% with over 50% of patients opting for virtual care. Origin opened 2 more clinics in April 2021 (3 clinics in 9 months) and has plans to continue to grow across the country.
Origin is well-positioned to be first to market and define a category of care as a spotlight is shining on women’s health needs. With only 5,000 experts nationwide, Origin’s success will depend on creating the best place to work for clinicians while simultaneously creating a strong L&D program that can teach, train, and grow the number of qualified clinicians in the US.
