Hopscotch is building a visual programming language on the iPad that needs to be as beautiful as it is functional. We’re a small team of seven working to empower kids to become digital makers and thinkers. Our mission is to empower anyone anywhere to create their own technologies. We released Hopscotch in April 2013, and have since won awards, been featured by Apple and used by kids in over 100 countries.
Here at Hopscotch, we want everyone to have the chance to experience the joyful and creative parts of computer programming without getting bogged down by tricky syntax. We believe that while not everyone will become professional software engineers, some exposure to and understanding of how computer programs work is beneficial to everyone.
We’re looking for a Software Engineer who is excited about working in a fast-paced startup environment and delivering a high-quality product while writing clean, well-factored code. You should care about programming language design, teaching kids and using software to make the world a better place.
A note on diversity. As a team, we strongly value diversity. A diverse team enables multiple perspectives and better decision making. Part of the reason for our existence is to expose programming to a wider swath of the population. We believe it’s important that the pool of programmers and engineers be more representative of society as a whole. If you represent a gender or ethnic minority, you are particularly encouraged to apply.
